The Handmaid’s Tale Renewed for Season 6, the final season! – EXCLUSIVE UPDATE

The adventures of June Osborne and the former Handmaids of Gilead won’t end in the fifth season of The Handmaid’s Tale – the show has just been renewed for Season 6.

Elisabeth Moss confirmed on February 9: “We’re prepping right now and we will start this summer,” Moss, who plays June Osborne in the Hulu series, shared.

Creator and showrunner Bruce Miller made the announcement Thursday night at the season 5 premiere at the 2022 Toronto International Film Festival, also confirming that he is developing a sequel, titled The Testaments, to be set years after the events of the Elisabeth Moss-starring, Emmy-winning series.

It has been a true honor to tell the story of Margaret Atwood’s groundbreaking novel and chillingly relevant world, and we are thrilled to bring viewers a sixth and final season of The Handmaid’s Tale,” Miller said in a statement of the show. “We are grateful to Hulu and MGM for allowing us to tell this story, which unfortunately has remained as relevant as ever throughout its run, and are in awe of our incredible fans for their unwavering support, and without whom we never would have gotten to this point.”

This was also revealed by Ann Dowd in an interview with Digital Spy in February!

“The writers are very smart. They don’t tell the actors anything. I have no idea what’s going to happen in the next few episodes, but I know there will be a season 5 and 6.”

As for what we can expect from season five, Dowd can’t give much away – mainly as she hasn’t had the scripts through yet. “The writers are very smart. They don’t tell actors anything – I don’t have a clue at all about what will be happening.

Going into more detail, the actress of Rita has revealed that the new episodes of The Handmaid’s Tale, whose filming should begin in late January, will show from the beginning the consequences of the murder of Fred Waterford.

In this context, the former handmaids involved and June Osborne will go on the run or at least be forced to hide. Otherwise, the characters who did not take part in the attack will have the task of putting the pieces back together.

“The feeling is that June will run or at least have to hide. I think there will be a target on her back and I think those of us left behind in Canada will try to pick up the pieces.”

Ever Carradine, who plays Naomi, has been promoted to series regular for the Hulu drama’s sixth and final season.
