EXCLUSIVE INTERVIEW: William Martinez Teases UpTV movie “Sweetly Salted” – WATCH

Can you tell us a bit about your character in Sweety Salted?

So my character, Seb, was a renowned chef, and he’s trying to make his mark out in Chicago, and then he obviously falls into some trouble when he makes the hibaritos. And Lanie’s character doesn’t like them. She writes that review, and then after know, the whole story plays out and they get to know each other, get to fall further in love, but also kind know get further into the restaurant business as well. Great.

What initially attracted you to your role in Sweety Salted?

When they reached out to me, I saw it was an opportunity to kind of express my latin culture as well. I also love food, so it was a chance for me to get in there and also eat and cook and kind of put my flavor on it. My character, Seb, is Puerto Rican, I’m Dominican, but we have very similar cuisines. So, like, Jibarito is like, smashed plantains. We call it, like, platinum, like totone, and then so, like, that sandwich and all that. I actually had never had one because that’s more of a Puerto rican dish. And I got to have it when we were filming and I fell in love.
So I’ve been here in the city, in New York, like, finding where they have hivaritas and trying them out everywhere.

What do you hope audiences take away from watching Sweety Salted?

I hope that they take passion. When you have passion for something as Seb’s character does for cooking and things like that, people will gravitate towards you, and I think a lot of people are worried about what other people are going to think.
But I think finding your passion in life is very important, as Seth does, as I’ve done in my life, too, with acting. You find your passion and the people will come, but you got to find the thing that makes you inside feel very happy. And in return, people will come around that will support and kind of help you go forward, and in turn, you can help them as well.
