EXCLUSIVE INTERVIEW: Star Gina Vitori Previews Lifetime’s ‘A Deadly Threat to my Family’!

Jessica Morris, Gina Vitori, Lelia Symington and Isabella Mercurio star in the movie A Deadly Threat to my Family premiered on Lifetime Channel on Saturday May 4th, 2024 at 8/7c. We at Survived The Shows had the incredible chance to talk with star Gina Vitori, who teased the movie and her experience in A Deadly Threat to my Family. Check out the full interview below!

Can you tell us a bit about your character in A Deadly Threat to my Family?

Hi! So I play Serena— a woman who as recently escaped a cult, turning in the leader, Aleph, right before ‘the rise’ ceremony, where they were all going to essentially commit suicide together. Now, she’s living with her brother, Ryan, and his wife Marielle, who in a lot of ways, she blames for ending up in the cult.

What initially attracted you to your role in A Deadly Threat to my Family?

I never really get to play the ‘messed up’ character. Serena has a whole well of turmoil she’s dealing with— facing withdrawals from the cult, what was real, what wasn’t, shame, guilt, betraying her ‘chosen family’ even if it was for everyone’s survival, isolation from her real family, and how that’s what led her to joining the cult in the first place. Not to mention, *spoiler alert*, being the sort of ‘red herring’ for the audience— toeing the line to make them constantly wonder if she’s good or bad.

What do you think makes this movie so special and captivating?

I think Erin and Nick, our director and DP, really did a wonderful job filming this one. Cinematically, it’s moody, and edgier then some other Lifetime movies, and our characters really do go through really intense stuff. Also, we have 4 super awesome women at the helm of this.

What do you hope audiences take away from watching A Deadly Threat to my Family?

Honestly, communication is key! A lot of the events of the movie could’ve been avoided if Serena felt she could really be trusted or believed… and if she just spoke candidly to Marielle from the get go. But then again, we wouldn’t have a movie, would we?

What was it like working with the rest of the cast on set?

Delightful!! Jessica is such a talent. Lelia, Mark, Isabella… gosh it’s so nice when everyone just really gets along and we spend all day just chatting and laughing. Isabella is also just so enthusiastic about everything— it’s refreshing!

What can you tease about your character Journey?

She may not be exactly what you think she is…

What was your favorite scene or moment while filming A Deadly Threat to my Family?

Hmmm… I actually really loved the nightmare scene, when Serena is hacking away at the pots and pans. It felt super eerie and haunting, and it’s one of the few times she really shows her hand.

At Survived the Shows, we are big fans of Christmas comedies. What is your all-time favorite?

Ohhhh. This is so hard. Probably Elf.

Change of subject, What have been some of the most memorable projects you have worked on throughout your career, and why?

I’d say ‘Star Wars: Ashoka’, just because of how legendary it is to be part of that universe, even for a quick moment! The sheer talent of every single person involved; the size of the stage, fitting my officer uniform specifically to my body, the practical creatures being remote controlled! So so so cool. Other than that though, when I got to film for a month in Thailand shooting ‘Frenzy’. It was unforgettable and I made some of my best friends on that.

Can you tease something about your next projects?

I just got to act with Nathan Lane in an episode of the new ‘Monsters’ season— coming out on Netflix later this year I believe! Also, I have Tubi original coming out where I play a VERY different character from my usual fair. She’s a rich, Miami seductress, and it’ll definitely get… saucy.

A Deadly Threat to my Family” starring Gina Vitori will premiere on Saturday, May 4th on Lifetime Channel.
