Keshia Knight Pulliam and Michael Strickland star in “Hillsdale Adoption Scam” a new, original movie premiering Saturday, March 18 at 8 p.m. on Lifetime. We at Survived The Shows had the pleasure of chatting with Michael Strickland about his experience in the making of the movie and what people can expect. Check out the full interview in the video below!

What’s the main element in Terrence’s character and the movie in general that fascinates you the most and drew you to join The Hillsdale Adoption Scam?

MICHAEL STRICKLAND: That’s a great starting question. What drew me to this audition, of course, was the opportunity to play a father myself. I’m actually still a fairly recent father – my kiddo is about a year and a half old now, almost two years. So getting the opportunity to play a dad character was immediately intriguing to me because this is something I can absolutely connect to. Throughout the film, you’ll see this Saturday, there’s a few things that really are terrifying moments as a parent and getting that kind of weird opportunity to experience that is a test of the human ability.

So that was really one of the biggest things that drew me to it. Then Terence is just a dad who loves his kids with all his heart and wants to do the best for his boy. Of course, as a human he makes mistakes, but is is always doing his best to really support his family and have the best life set up for his family and you’ll you’ll see some interesting stuff throughout the film.

For all the people that are looking forward, just like us, to watching The Hillsdale Adoption Scam, how would you describe the movie if you had just 3 words?

Thriller, intense and nail-biting.

What can you tease about Terrence’s journey throughout the movie?

You can expect Terrence to be a valuable part of the relationship between both him and Bethany. In the sense that they really work together to try and better their family. There’s a lot of things that people can potentially relate to when it comes to Terrence as well as with Bethany. I can’t reveal too too much specifically because I also don’t want to spoil anything, but it’s definitely a testament to dealing with some of the most crazy things as a parent as well as a potential parent. So stay tuned.

Acting-wise, what’s been for you the biggest challenge you experienced in portraying Terrence?

The biggest challenge as Terrence I would say was probably the idea of not judging certain things that Terrence is going to do where me as Michael wouldn’t do, like not to talk to my wife about these things because I don’t want my wife to be mad at me. So there are moments where you typically will want to judge a character, but don’t judge a book by its cover. Just know that it always comes from a place of love. So that was the biggest challenge that I had.

Thankfully I had an amazing co-star to work with, Keisha Knight Pulliam, and it was an absolute blast working with her. She’s very open, very willing to play, which, as an actor, is freeing because then, especially when you’re working with someone who is as much of a veteran as she is, you want to make sure you come with a game right but she, she was extremely giving. She was very easy to get along with.

If you could choose any other character from The Hillsdale Adoption Scam, apart from Terrence, that you would have loved to play, which one would it be and why?

Ohh, I would love to play Georgia or Puck, or even Carmen. All three of them are just such interesting characters. Because there’s a lot that isn’t told. And then it starts to become revealed throughout the film.
