Jennings Rice, Andrew Fultz, and Mike Manning star in the movie Secret Life of the Pastor’s Wife premiering on Lifetime Channel on Saturday April 13th, 2024 at 8/7c. We at Survived The Shows had the incredible chance to talk with star Jennings Rice, who teased the movie and her experience in Secret Life of the Pastor’s Wife. Check out the full interview below!

Can you tell us a bit about your character in Secret Life of the Pastor’s Wife?

Angie is a beautiful, kind and tortured Mother and Wife. She strives for perfection and constantly sacrifices her happiness for others. Angie is always busy being the ideal of whatever role she is playing but deep down she is incredibly lonely. She questions how her life got to this point and if there is anything she can do to change it. Angie is constantly put under pressure from others to be perfect and live up to unreal expectations. To be human is to experience error and have barriers in life, Angie seems to think all her emotions are not valid unless her husband tells her they are so. We see her break out of her shell for the first time in her life in the film.

What initially attracted you to your role in Secret Life of the Pastor’s Wife?

I was drawn to her inner struggle. I felt I had figured her out as a person when I realized she had an angel and a devil within herself constantly at war with one another. She would strive to be perfect, while making herself unhappy. We see her put her love in someone that maybe she shouldn’t and while she knows it’s wrong, it did feel so right. Angie was an amazing character to play because of her dichotomy. Her selflessness when it came to her own priorities were fascinating to understand. I had a blast being her, seeing the world through her eyes. It was very important to me to tell her story correctly and I felt she was a very emotional and empathetic person which is what would drive her forward at the end of the day.

What do you think makes this movie so special and captivating?

I think that Angie’s push forward no matter what is very special. Angie is someone who balances it all and values virtue and integrity despite all. She’s absolutely broken by her actions at points in the film and strives to be a better person. This movie is so intriguing because so much happens! There’s not one dull moment in the script, just when you think you’ve got it figured out- BAM- something else happens.

What do you hope audiences take away from watching Secret Life of the Pastor’s Wife?

I really hope they are entertained! I hope people can see themselves in Angie and know that they can find inner happiness no matter what. Sometimes the worst thing that happens to you is secretly the best thing.  I really want people to think about their own integrity and morals because at the end of the day what is true to you is true. No one should base their happiness, opinions or choices off of what others perceive to be right.

What was it like working with the rest of the cast on set?

It was so amazing to work with everyone! Shockingly, the first time I met everyone was on set. Sometimes you’ll meet people in callbacks or chemistry reads but we all met on our first days on set. We all clicked immediately. I didn’t even know who was playing my husband until he was there filming a scene I wasn’t in. I had so many laughs with everyone. It’s not so often you have an entire cast have such good chemistry, it was truly a special experience. The crew was the most supportive and fun group of people as well. I owe my life to a couple of the crew for always remembering where I would leave my script.

What can you tease about your character Journey?

Hmmm… I would tease that all actions have consequences.

What was your favorite scene or moment while filming Secret Life of the Pastor’s Wife?

I really loved when we filmed in the Church! We had so many background actors and the Church staff was so kind. It was our first week of filming and we jumped right in. Angie had so many beautiful outfits for Church as well, it was fun wearing all her clothing.

At Survived the Shows, we are big fans of Christmas comedies. What is your all-time favorite?

My all time favorite Chirstimas comedy is “Just Friends” with Ryan Reynolds, Amy Smart and Anna Faris. I watch it every Christmas. It’s got the perfect mix of comedy, romance and Christmas. I always recommend it to people. It’s also one of the most quotable movies, my family and I constantly say lines from it to each other.

Change of subject, What have been some of the most memorable projects you have worked on throughout your career, and why?

I would say my most memorable project to date was my short film, Next. I was able to work on that with so many close friends and it has been such a delight to see it hit the festival circuit. Next was a very emotional piece and really was a love letter to everyone I’ve encountered in life. It was the first time I really branched out on my own as a writer and so many people loved the script. It’s been very rewarding seeing so many people react to it. I think it helps people feel like they aren’t alone in this universe.

Can you tease something about your next projects?

I would simply say: think big.
