Jessica Morris, Gina Vitori, Lelia Symington and Isabella Mercurio star in the movie A Deadly Threat to my Family premiering on Lifetime Channel on Saturday May 5th, 2024 at 8/7c. We at Survived The Shows had the incredible chance to talk with star Isabella Mercurio, who teased the movie and her experience in A Deadly Threat to my Family. Check out the full interview below!

Can you tell us a bit about your character in A Deadly Threat to my Family?

Aria has been protected (and in her mind, coddled) her entire life by her mom, Marielle. She is trying her best to find her independence and prove that she can make her own decisions. When her aunt Serena comes to live with her and her family after being in a cult for all these years, Aria thinks it is simply the coolest thing. Even though she means well and just wants to grow up, fit in, and trust in those around her, Aria can be very easily influenced which is sometimes to her detriment.

What initially attracted you to your role in A Deadly Threat to my Family?

I honestly didn’t realize when I first auditioned and accepted the role that this film was for Lifetime! I truly LOVED the script and character so much. In general, I love to do projects that have a bit of a darker tone; and I love how Aria really is the heart amongst all the darkness. In reading the script, I fell in love with how human she is – she’s really just trying to figure out her place in the world and stand up for her convictions, whether they end up being wrong or right.

What do you think makes this movie so special and captivating?

At its core, A Deadly Threat to My Family (to me) is about family and trust. There is such a strong combination of love, mystery, high intensity, and of course, spookiness! Although it is a cult movie, there is so much heart to it. I think the film does a great job of balancing all the different tones. I also think the movie will succeed in keeping the audience on their toes! If I didn’t already know how it was going to end, I don’t think I would be able to put everything together until pretty late into the film, which is saying something, because I usually try to figure out the entire plot of a movie in the first 15 minutes.

What do you hope audiences take away from watching A Deadly Threat to my Family?

First and foremost, I hope people have a genuinely fun time watching it and enjoy piecing together what is going on! I hope audiences leave feeling closer to the people who have their backs and love them unconditionally. Also, if your gut is telling you something’s up… trust it and look out for the clues!

What was it like working with the rest of the cast on set?

It was so amazing. There were many long conversations about life and LOTS of jam sessions to Texas Hold ‘Em by Beyonce. This was a big project for me, and I was welcomed with such open arms and everyone was always there to answer any questions. I truly loved working with every single person who was a part of this film; we really became a family and I miss everyone so much!

What can you tease about your character Journey?

Sometimes trying to fit in and be cool, while at the same time ignoring any concerns from those around you, doesn’t always work out the way you want it to… let’s just say that!

What was your favorite scene or moment while filming A Deadly Threat to my Family?

My favorite scene to film was the movie’s climax – you will have to watch and see to understand why! There was a different kind of energy in the room during those two days of filming and it really reminded me of why I love acting in the first place.

At Survived the Shows, we are big fans of Christmas comedies. What is your all-time favorite?

Ooo, I love this question! I would have to go with Home Alone. My family and I watch it every Christmas and it never gets old!

Change of subject, What have been some of the most memorable projects you have worked on throughout your career, and why?

I worked on a feature film a few years ago called Allison’s Party that was truly one of the best experiences of my life. The film was produced by Archetypes Productions and directed by Amber Steigelfest and Sheen Faulconer. We shot the film in March of 2021 – right around the time that Covid restrictions were starting to ease up. At this point, none of the cast and crew had really seen much of anyone in the last year and working during that time was pretty impossible. Being able to all come together to create this project was really special to everybody involved. Whenever I watch it, I feel such a deep level of nostalgia and love for both my character, Kenzie, and to everyone involved in making this feature film in only 10 days!

Can you tease something about your next projects?

Allison’s Party is actually set to be re-released and put on streaming services, so I am excited to be able to share more on that soon! That’s about all I can tease for now, but I’m very excited for what is on the horizon. 🙂
