EXCLUSIVE INTERVIEW: Lauren Pike Previews Lifetime Movie Network’s Blackmail, Lies and Murder!

Blackmail, Lies and Murder will premiere on Lifetime Movie Network on March 7th. We at Survived The Shows had the pleasure of chatting with star Lauren Pike, who portrays Kristen, about her experience on LMN’s Blackmail, Lies and Murder and a lot more.

Can you tell us a bit about your character in Blackmail, Lies and Murder?

Kristen is a woman who appears to have it all together; the job, the husband, the house, the money (or so it seems). Underneath the facade she is a woman desperate to escape her current circumstances and will go to any lengths to try to free herself.

What initially attracted you to your role in  Blackmail, Lies and Murder?

I was instantly drawn to this character for her complexity, vulnerability and drive to rise above her circumstances. The relationship dynamics are also complex. I’m always interested in exploring how a person’s lived experience dictates human behavior and interpersonal relationships. I also love a good thriller!

What do you think makes this movie so special and captivating?

This was directed by Dylan Vox who has such an incredible vision, perspective and a unique story telling ability. I trusted him immediately! The movie has grit, authenticity AND the fast pace will keep you on your toes!

What do you hope audiences take away from watching  Blackmail, Lies and Murder?

I think it’s a great reminder that things are not always as they seem; we can never really know what someone is going through beneath the surface and behind closed doors.

What was it like working with the rest of the cast on set?

Every single member of the cast was so lovely, incredibly talented and a joy to work with. Kelsey McKean’s character Candace and I become fast friends in the movie; the same was definitely true in real life! Nick Ritacco (Nathan) was an absolute professional. He brought so many layers to the (intense) dynamic and was so easy to work with. The crew truly operated at the highest level, I was in awe of everyone!

What can you tease about your character Journey?

Without giving too much away; I think Kristen is in survival mode for most of the film. You see how events begin to spiral completely out of her control and in the end; the audience will have to decide if she’s the victim or the villain.

What was your favorite scene or moment while filming  Blackmail, Lies and Murder?

Oh this is so hard, I loved the whole experience honestly. I really enjoyed filming in the spin cycling studio! We all laughed and had so much fun. There is a pivotal scene between Kristen and Nathan in their living room that I really liked because it provides insight into their relationship dynamic.

Can you tell us about any challenges you faced while filming  Blackmail, Lies and Murder and how you overcame them?

This was a fast paced wild ride but filled with the absolute best challenges for an actor! I wanted to tell Kristen’s story with the most empathy and authenticity possible. She definitely makes mistakes; but I tried to hold onto the ‘why’ behind her moves. This movie often required a sustained high level of intensity and emotion across the board. We all supported one another’s processes and Dylan is so intuitive and skilled in creating the best environment possible for risk taking!

Change of subject, What have been some of the most memorable projects you have worked on throughout your career, and why?

This one will definitely be memorable as my first LA movie (and for many other reasons)! My first role in a full length feature in NYC will always be memorable. I was standing in Times Square on Broadway when I got the email and I’ll never forget that feeling!

Can you tease something about your next projects?

I have a short film coming out soon which is a cute quirky slice of New York life! This is one short in a series of stories with characters whose lives all coincide. I got to work with my friends at Larkin Stanhope Productions; it’s going to be so FUN!
