EXCLUSIVE INTERVIEW: Lauren Jackson Breaks Down Hallmark’s Time for Her to Come Home for Christmas & Paramount’s Just like a Christmas Movie!

Can you tell us a bit about your character in Time for her to come Home for Christmas?

LAUREN JACKSON: Jenny still lives in her home town, connected to her family and community, but has dreams that go beyond what has been familiar to her. Her path ahead is forming just as she sees the return of her childhood best friend.

What initially attracted you to your role in Time for her to come Home for Christmas?

LAUREN JACKSON: I like that Jenny is in process- she’s figuring out how to be connected to her roots while dreaming beyond what she has known her whole life. She also happens to be written with a great sense of humour. And so that was a lot of fun to play.

What do you think makes the romance in the movie so special and captivating?

LAUREN JACKSON: I like that we see many relationships evolve in real time. There are many instances where the characters change their perception of what they thought their heart was telling them. It also features all kinds of love: romantic love, friendship, familial love and love within a community or chosen family.

What do you hope audiences take away from watching Time for her to come Home for Christmas?

LAUREN JACKSON: This is a difficult time of year for a lot of people, and I suspect many are looking for ways to feel comforted and seen. I think the fact that one of the main plots of the film involves a quirky choir of seeming misfits, reminds us that there are many things that can unite us: joy, community and collaboration.

What was it like working with the rest of the cast on set?

LAUREN JACKSON: This cast was an absolute dream. Our director Ali Liebert assembled some real knock outs (many of whom have theatre backgrounds, which is always a joyful mutuality) and an atmosphere of great comradery evolved right away. Shenae Grimes-Beech and Chris Carmack were such formidable leaders as well: setting a great example of professionalism and fun.

What can you tease about your character Journey in Time for her to come Home for Christmas?

LAUREN JACKSON: I hope people enjoy the distinct uniqueness of childhood friends reuniting at a different stage in life.

What was your favorite scene or moment while filming Time for her to come Home for Christmas?

LAUREN JACKSON: On the final day of shooting the crew gathered around the church to watch a rehearsal of the choir singing our final number. There was so much stillness and focus and connection for that moment. The crew works so very hard on these movies and often don’t get to stop moving, so to have that moment suspended in time was really special.

Can you tell us about any challenges you faced while filming Time for her to come Home for Christmas and how you overcame them?

LAUREN JACKSON: When shooting Christmas movies in the summertime, weather is always going to be a factor. Wardrobe is always so good about providing layers that can be removed between shots. They’ve got it down to a science.

Can you tell us a bit about your character in Just like a Christmas Movie?

LAUREN JACKSON: Gwen is a local powerhouse who is looking to make some changes to the towns annual Christmas celebrations. She appears in the movie as a bit of hitch in the traditional holiday plans.

What initially attracted you to your role in Just like a Christmas Movie?

LAUREN JACKSON: Without giving too much away, there is a bit of an archetype within this character that I have rarely played. And so I was thrilled to portray Gwen’s journey.

What was your favorite scene or moment while filming Just like a Christmas Movie?

LAUREN JACKSON: Similar to “Time for her to come home for Christmas”, my favourite moment was on the last day. There’s something about rounding the corner at the end of a project and everyone taking stock of what it takes to put these things together. Soran was so enthusiastic and made sure that everyone shared in the celebration of all the hard work.

Change of subject, What have been some of the most memorable projects you have worked on throughout your career, and why?

LAUREN JACKSON: I come from a theatre background, and a lot of my memorable moments have come from that world, which will always have my heart. Beyond that though, Time for Her to Come Home for Christmas, was truly special for so many reasons and it marks a shift in how I see the work.

Can you tease something about your next projects?

LAUREN JACKSON: I have a couple things waiting to be released that of course I can’t say too much about but one thing that rings true, as it does for many Vancouver actors: is range. What shoots here typically runs the gamut and so it’s always exciting to try on different genres, and occupy different worlds.
