EXCLUSIVE INTERVIEW: Jessica Landry Previews Lifetime’s A Widow Seduced!

Lifetime ‘s movie “A Widow Seduced”, writes by Jessica Landry premiered on the channel on Wedneday December 29, 2023 at 8/7c. We at Survived The Shows had the pleasure of chatting with Jessica Landry about her experience on the movie “A Widow Seduced” and a lot more.

Can you tell us a bit the characters in A widow seduced?

The film follows Kellie, a recent widow who’s trying to overcome the death of her husband. She finds some solace in a local support group, where her best friend Sasha is also grieving her own loss. When Kellie meets Dan through a dating app, her grief seems to disappear. But her over-protective brother, Jack, is cautious of Kellie and Dan’s fast-moving relationship. And it isn’t long before Kellie learns that Dan may be harbouring a secret or two.

What initially attracted you to the incipit/initial idea of A widow seduced?

Everyone loves a good Tinder swindler story, and this one is steeped in true crime lore. I wanted to create a story that sees a broken woman go through hell, only to come out the other side realizing that she doesn’t need a man to make herself feel full again. Rather, it’s her relationships with other women that make it through to the other side.

What do you think makes this movie so special and captivating?

I really wanted to write a story that didn’t pin women against each other. I wanted to dissect female relationships and what friendships go through when someone like a love interest is thrown in. Kellie finding the confidence to trust not only herself, but other women is at the core of this story.

What do you hope audiences take away from watching A widow seduced’s?

I hope it’s an enjoyable time! A lot of folks put a lot of time and effort to make this movie as good as it is, so my biggest hope is that viewers recognize that.

What can you tease about A Widow seduced’s charachters Journey?

Kellie goes through quite the journey throughout the film, from being a broken, grieving widow, to being in love, to realizing that her new beau may have a malicious intent toward her (but no one believes her), and to finally finding someone who does believe her. Like any good Lifetime movie, there are lots of twists and turns—I don’t want to spoil the fun!

Can you tell us about any challenges you faced while writing A widow seduced and how you overcame them?

The script went through many drafts before we all found it ready to shoot, and often in the world of TV movies, time isn’t on your side. What makes that easier to get through is a good, understanding team who works and collaborates strongly together to get the job done. The team at Vortex, who produced the time, are one of a kind, and any script challenges we faced, we tackled them together.

Change of subject, What have been some of the most memorable projects you have worked on throughout your career, and why?

I’ve been lucky to have worked on a variety of projects during my career so far, from writing on a sitcom to directing a factual series. The most memorable ones so far have been writing and directing my short films TESTAMENT, GHOSTS OF LAKELAND, and I FALL TO PIECES. It takes a village to make a movie, and I know some genuinely wonderful and talented people in the industry who are always willing to dive into the franticness that is shooting a short with me. I can’t wait to make more films with them.

Can you tease something about your next projects?

Horror is my absolute favourite genre, and I’m all giddy to say that I have a slasher/satire feature coming out on Tubi this year, called BODY COUNT, directed by Danishka Esterhazy and produced by Blue Ice Pictures. I’m also in development on several projects, including a docuseries that explores women in horror called WE SHALL BE MONSTERS, as well as a true encounters paranormal docuseries called GHOST LANDS. I’m also working with Vortex again on a follow-up to A WIDOW SEDUCED. But more to come on that later.
