Kimberley Sustad and Brooks Darnell star in “Game of Love,” a new, original movie premiering Saturday, March 11 (8 p.m. ET/PT), on Hallmark Channel. We at Survived The Shows had the pleasure of chatting with Edwin Perez, who plays Marshall, about his experience in the making of the movie and what fans can expect. Check out the full interview in the video below!

What’s the main element in Marshall’s character and show in general that fascinates you the most and drew you to join Game of Love?

EDWIN PEREZ: I think one of the really cool things is that I love comedy and being in this romantic comedy was just so much fun. And for Marshall, one of the big components of his character is that he’s finally at a place where he’s kind of part of the cool group. Everybody’s an outsider but we end up forming this kind of really cool bond between the four of us when Audrey, played by Kimberly Sustad, begins to open up and we become part of a team. It’s that wonderful feeling of being part of something that’s a huge thing for somebody like Marshall, who wants to be part of a team.

To all the fans looking forward to watching the new season, how would you describe Game of Love in just 3 words?

I would say it’s a hilarious story about love. And if I could put it a different way, it’s about very different individuals coming together to be a team.

What can you tease about Marshall’s journey throughout the movie?

Well, I think one of the big things for him, for Marshall, is again being part of this team. Everybody starts as a bit of an outsider, as I’ve mentioned before, but there’s this really cool moment in the movie where we really finally click as a team. We sort of do this very funny little scene that was improvised by the four of us. Kimberly and Brooks came up with this idea and we ended up putting it in the movie. So it wasn’t scripted, but it just turned out to be so, so funny.

Acting-wise, what’s been for you the biggest challenge in portraying Marshall?

The thing about comedies is that I ove them because you can always bring the energy offcamera into the scene and when you’re sitting around, there’s this levity around the room and you’re joking around with some of the other cast, some of the crew. And you can always inject all of that humor and that good energy into the scene. So it helps you overcome any sort of hurdles where maybe you might get stuck as an actor and just go, ‘oh, I’m not sure if that’s what he would do or how would you approach that?’. So I have to be very thankful that comedy carries through into the scenes. That really helped me sort of overcome things that would normally stump you as an actor, I would say.

If you could choose any other character from Game of Love, apart from Marshall, you would have loved to play, which one would it be and why?

I would probably pick Patty because she’s very funny, quirky and very high energy. I think I would like to try that. I’ve played characters like that in the past and I find it really fun to be able to be that quirky, upbeat and bring that sort of humor to it. So I would love to try my hand at that.
