Keshia Knight Pulliam and Michael Strickland star in “Hillsdale Adoption Scam” a new, original movie which premiered Saturday, March 18 on Lifetime. We at Survived The Shows had the pleasure of chatting with Danika Frederick about her experience in the making of the movie and what people can expect. Check out the full interview below!

What’s the main element in Georgia’s character and the movie in general that fascinates you the most and drew you to join The Hillsdale Adoption Scam ?

DANIKA FREDERICK: For me, the most fascinating element of Georgia was having to justify and empathize with the diabolical choices Georgia (and villains in general) made. Playing the villain is one of the things I love most about acting- it’s so human to make choices that not everyone understands, and to understand why someone might do what they do. As well, exploring the physicality of being “pregnant” was something I wanted to push myself to do.

Where are you and Georgia most similar and where most different as human beings?

As we see later on, Georgia does in fact have empathy for those around her. She hasn’t had an easy life. Unfortunately, that’s what causes her to be easily influenced and hurt the people around her, which is where we differ. I find that I am a relatively understanding and forgiving person, whereas Georgia is entitled and determined to seek “justice” for herself against those who she perceives to have wronged her.

What’s been the biggest challenge for you in portraying Georgia?

Having to be “pregnant” for most of filming and being angry! I’m not an angry person at all and it can be difficult for me to tap into that when I’m acting.

To all the fans looking forward to watching the movie, how would you describe The Hillsdale Adoption Scam in just 3 words?

Thrilling, sultry, shocking!

What can you tease about Georgia’s journey throughout the movie?

There is a lot of truth to Georgia’s lies and she may not be as evil as the seems…

Talking about the environment on set, how would you describe your experience while filming The Hillsdale Adoption Scam and do you have any fun anecdotes to share?

My experience on set was absolutely wonderful. We actually shot in my hometown, and it was so amazing to be able to be a lead on set with all of these people who have been cheering me on since day 1.

Our script supervisor Puneet started “The Peanut Gallery” and interviewed everyone on set which was so much fun!

If you could choose any other character from The Hillsdale Adoption Scam, apart from Georgia, that you would have loved to play, which one would it be and why?

I would love to play Desi! She’s so sassy and confrontational and unapologetic.

Did you take anything from set, any prop or piece of costume, to remember your experience as Georgia?

No I didn’t, although getting to keep the baby bump would have been really cool! They did let me borrow it for an audition I had where I was also pregnant.

Throwing back to the origins of your career, how did the passion for acting come about in your life?

I was a bit of a late bloomer- I started acting when I was 25 after I decided not to do my doctorate because it wasn’t what I was truly passionate about. I grew up as a dancer and a musician so performing has always been in my blood. I love storytelling and performing and exploring the human condition, so acting felt like the next natural step.

Among all the roles you’ve had the chance to play throughout your career, is there any particular role you’re most fond of?

My favourite role that I’ve played so far has been Nikki in Safehaven. She is a femme fatale if I’ve ever seen one and I wouldn’t want to get on her bad side.

What can you tease about your next projects?

Yes! Stay tuned for Safehaven and even more villainy (or maybe not?) from me!

The Hillsdale Adoption Scam, starring Danika Frederick, premiered March 18 on Lifetime and it is now available to stream on the platform.
