5 TV couples played by actors who hate each other at all!

Love stories are one of the main ingredients of many TV series. Whether they are on the side, or form the main storyline, it is easy to get passionate about the troubled relationships that, after heartbreaking separations, end with a well-deserved and longed-for happy ending. But we must remember that fiction does not always mirror reality, and sometimes the latter can be quite different. Some couples who spark in front of the camera in TV series, in everyday life struggle to get along and would much rather stay away from each other as much as possible. One example is Derek and Meredith on Grey’s Anatomy.

1) Elena and Damon (The Vampire Diaries)

It seems that the actors who portray Damon and Elena (“Delena”) also had some problems on the set that even ended up involving filming. Nina Dobrev and Ian Somerhalder had made us hope and dream that the love story enacted in the TV series could be such in real life as well. Unfortunately, their relationship did not have the happy ending they had hoped for, and after the breakup in 2013, tensions continued during work on The Vampire Diaries. Apparently, the actor did not refrain from making biting jokes and throwing barbs at his ex-girlfriend.

Some sources report that Dobrev’s departure from the series was related precisely to the uneasy climate that had been created.

2) Meredith and Derek (Grey’s Anatomy)

Even Meredith and Derek, who made our hearts flutter so much on Grey’s Anatomy, have the faces of two actors who were not exactly taking to each other so much on set. Ellen Pompeo, in fact, never spared her colleague Patrick Dempsey any barbs and scolds. In an interview, she stated bluntly that she was not sorry for her colleague’s departure. Or at least, not as much as for that of Sandra Oh (who played Cristina Yang).

But that’s not all!

Pompeo claimed, with a hint of pride, credit for hiring Patrick Dempsey as Dr. Strangelove. In fact, it seems that the role had previously been assigned to Isaiah Washington (who ended up lending his face to Dr. Burke).

Today the two would appear to be on more peaceful terms, but there were times on set when they did not fare well.

3) Brooke and Lucas (One Tree Hill)

One of the teen dramas that can move us, entertain us, inspire us, thanks in part to a great couple who enraptured us with their intimacy and troubled affairs.

Chad Michael Murray and Sophia Bush met on set and, after only a year of dating, decided to get married. Unfortunately, it turned out to be an unwise choice dictated by a passing crush. After their divorce in 2006, relations deteriorated, and she never missed an opportunity to denigrate her colleague and reiterate how much she regretted that marriage. She even said in an interview with Andy Cohen that she never wanted to get married, that she felt forced and that Murray was for her the classic wrong guy that many run into in their youth.

4) Lorelai and Luke (Gilmore Girls)

Sadly, it’s true: one of the couples that has kept us dreaming for years and hoping for love is hiding an ill-concealed dislike on the set of Gilmore Girls. Lauren Graham (set to return to her iconic role) and Scott Patterson have impressive chemistry onstage, a natural exchange of banter, and a high degree of chemistry, but it is purely and exclusively fiction. In fact, in 2005, Graham stated that her costar playing the grumpy but caring Luke has a very difficult character to deal with. Behind the scenes there was a lot of tension and the two could barely stand each other.

The actress added that for these very reasons she felt the need to take a break from filming and the spotlight.

5) Scully and Mulder (X-Files)

Another hard blow to take: Gillian Anderson and David Duchovny have overwhelmed us with their love story born amid unsolved cases and mysterious paranormal events. They seem like a perfect couple, but their chemistry is limited to scenes in the series. Daily, there were squabbles and misunderstandings on the set that slowed down filming. Both actors revealed that while shooting The X-Files they could not tolerate each other’s presence. At least, however, this time there seems to be a happy ending. After years, David Duchovny said that their relationship has much improved and they have found a balance. Anderson added, “I think now we look out for each other more, we’re on each other’s side. We are more attentive to each other’s attentions, needs, concerns, as if we have finally realized that we are together in this adventure.”
